The nations love interest with rum began in the colonial days and millions of gallons of rum were being imported from various parts of the Caribbean each year. BUT all the Caribbean people that I know and love, have loved on rum since the beginning of time. Today, August 16th we celebrate all things rum on National Rum Day. Continue reading →

WAKEUP, it’s Super Bowl XLIX Sunday! What is your prediction? Or are you like me and have been sitting on the bench with your team for weeks just waiting (and a little hating) for the final two teams to give you the last football rush until 2016 with no real care on the winner. Today is as close as it gets to the feeling you have on Christmas morning (men and women) in the land of football. I know some who are pulling out their team shirts/jerseys for one last time as you get ready for the big game holding on to the football euphoria as long as possible. Thank you for letting me digress for a moment. I’m back. Continue reading →

Today is National Creme de Menthe Day. I will keep this post short so you can go an make a quick night cap in celebration. Creme de Menthe (tastes like mint) is a sweet mint flavored alcoholic beverage also know as a liqueur. One of the more popular cocktails or caztail as I like to call them made with Creme de Menthe is a Grasshopper, why? Duh the color. BUT, Creme de Menthe also comes in a clear color with the same minty flavor. One of my FAB brands for liqueur is DeKuyper as you will see this is the brand used in my Caztail. Continue reading →
Let me say it again, Obrigado Dio por Cachaca! I was first introduced to cachaca during my first visit to Rio de Janerio, Brazil in 2011 and it’s the main ingredient in a Caipirinha one of my 3 FAV cocktails in my universe. Yup, I have 3 FAV cocktails; why should I have to choose? That is what makes me the global gal I am, but I digress. Continue reading →
It’s August 16th, also known as National Rum Day, not to be confused with National Rum Punch day which is in September. We are suggesting you RUM to the nearest store and check out something new to assist you in making the perfect cocktail in celebration. Are you ready for a little Rum history before you tap the bottom of that glass? Rum originates from sugar cane which is indigenoius to the Caribbean.
There are two different types of Rum light and dark. You’re probably wondering, how this affect your next drink order. Well, it depends on the drink and your pallet. First the color difference is based on timing, the longer the rum is aged in oak barrels the richer the color becomes as it takes on flavor and coloring from the wood barrel. The climate in the Caribbean also aides in the rum’s maturation process. Now, with a little history in your pocket you’re ready to take on the Rum isle at your local liquor store and/or navigate the shelve at your neighborhood bar.
Enough of the history of rum, let’s get start shaking and sipping. What can you make at home with with light or dark rum? Three words…whatever you want, but here’s some help.
Caz’s Cuba Libre (a fav of my family)
1oz Abuelo Rum (Panamanian rum)
2 slides or chunks mango
1 1/2oz Rum
Add teaspoon sugar, mint, mango and muddle. Add Rum, ice and fill with lemon/lime soda. Enjoy

Who would image the day would come when champagne would be made to drink over ice? How do the champagne Gods in France feel about this? I wasn’t a believer, but decided it was my duty to sip and give it a try. I’ve been seeing Moet & Chandon advertise this summer on social media about their champagne “Ice Imperial” which is to be enjoyed over ice in a cabernet wine glass so I decided to let my fingers to the walking and called Total Wine & More to see if they had Ice Imperial in stock and just any my mouth was in total anticipation of this bubbly treat when they told me it was IN Stock. Yeah Me! Continue reading →
